  • The City of Beverly Hills requires permits for temporary event structures to ensure compliance with building and fire safety regulations.

    Use this application to request permits for structures such as tents, stages, trusses, and generators. Applicants must submit event details, a site plan, and supporting documentation for City review. Additional permits may be required depending on event elements. A Fire Department Public Assembly Permit is required for events with 50 or more attendees.

      By submitting this application, the permit holder acknowledges and agrees to comply with the following requirements. The permit holder and property owner assume full responsibility for the installation, operation, maintenance, and removal of all temporary equipment associated with the event.

       

      Generator Requirements

      • Temporary generators shall be installed and operated in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and all applicable fire and safety regulations.
        Generators shall be located so they do not obstruct required exits, driveways, fire lanes, or emergency access routes.
      • Generators shall be positioned to minimize noise and exhaust impacts to neighboring properties.
      • All electrical connections, cables, and distribution equipment shall be approved for temporary use and installed in a safe manner to prevent tripping hazards, electrical hazards, or damage.
      • Generators shall be attended or monitored during operation to ensure safe performance and prompt response to any malfunction.
      • The permit holder shall immediately shut down and secure the generator if an unsafe condition occurs.
      • The permit holder assumes full responsibility and liability for the installation, operation, maintenance, and removal of the generator, including any injury, damage, or loss associated with its use.
      • The generator installation shall be subject to inspection by City staff at any time. Any unsafe condition identified shall be corrected immediately.
         

      Truss / Stage Requirements

      • Temporary stages, platforms, and truss systems shall be installed, used, maintained, and removed in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and installation instructions.
      • When required by the City, construction documents for stages or truss systems shall be prepared by a California-licensed design professional and demonstrate structural stability and wind resistance.
      • Stages and truss systems shall be properly anchored or ballasted as required by the manufacturer or engineer of record.
      • Ballasts, weights, or anchoring systems shall not obstruct exits, pathways, or emergency access routes.
      • Anchors or weights shall not damage utilities, pavement, landscaping, or other site features.
      • No alterations or structural modifications to the stage or truss system are permitted without prior City approval.
      • The permit holder shall monitor weather conditions and immediately evacuate the stage or truss structure if hazardous weather conditions create an unsafe environment.
      • All electrical equipment, lighting, rigging, or audio equipment attached to the stage or truss shall be installed in a safe manner and approved for temporary use.
      • The permit holder assumes full responsibility and liability for the installation, operation, maintenance, and removal of the stage or truss system.
      • All stage and truss installations are subject to inspection by City staff at any time and any unsafe condition must be corrected immediately.
         

      Temporary Tent Requirements

      • Temporary tents shall not exceed the approved square footage as listed in the plans unless otherwise approved by the City.
      • Tents shall be installed, used, maintained, and removed in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and installation instructions.
      • The permit holder and property owner assume full responsibility and liability for the installation, use, operation, maintenance, and removal of the temporary tent, including any injury, damage, or loss associated with the tent.
      • The permit holder shall monitor weather conditions for the duration of the tent's use.
      • The tent shall be immediately evacuated and secured or removed if weather conditions create an unsafe environment, as determined by the permit holder, tent manufacturer, or City staff.
      • Tents shall be adequately anchored or ballasted per manufacturer requirements.
      • Anchors or weights shall not damage utilities, pavement, landscaping, or other site features.
      • Ballasts or weights shall not obstruct exits or pathways.
      • No alterations or structural modifications to the tent system or anchoring method are permitted without prior City approval.
      • Tent materials, including tops and sidewalls, shall be flame resistant and shall maintain valid flame-resistant certification for the duration of the event.
      • Tents and canopies shall be constructed of flame-retardant materials certified by the California State Fire Marshal.
      • Clear exit paths and access shall be maintained at all times. Tents shall not obstruct required exits, driveways, or emergency access routes.
      • Electrical cords, lighting, heaters, or other equipment used within or adjacent to the tent shall be approved for temporary use and installed in a safe manner.
      • If a tent is designated for cooking, it shall be placed no less than 20 feet from all other tents or structures.
      • The tent shall be subject to inspection by City staff at any time. Any unsafe condition identified shall be corrected immediately or the tent shall be vacated and/or removed.
      • The permit holder shall be responsible for repairing any damage to public or private property resulting from the installation, use, or removal of the tent.
      • The permit holder agrees to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the City, its officers, agents, and employees from any claims or liabilities arising from the temporary tent.
      • Failure to comply with these conditions may result in revocation of the permit and required removal of the tent at the permit holder’s expense.
         

      Event and Municipal Code Compliance

      • Rental of any residence, or any portion thereof, for events such as parties, banquets, auctions, or similar activities is prohibited except for nonprofit or charity functions, which are limited to one time per quarter and no more than four (4) times within a twelve-month period, pursuant to Beverly Hills Municipal Code Section 10-3-4302(E).
      • No person shall engage in or conduct prohibited commercial activities as a home occupation in a residential zone pursuant to Beverly Hills Municipal Code Section 10-3-4302.
      • The person responsible for the event shall comply with all Beverly Hills Municipal Code regulations, including the City’s noise regulations.
      • Amplified sound is not permitted between 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM.
      • Noise levels are subject to enforcement by the Beverly Hills Police Department and the City’s Loud and Unruly Gathering Ordinance.
      • In the event the National Weather Service issues a Red Flag Warning, the Beverly Hills Fire Department will activate the City’s Red Flag Warning Program. During this time, posted No Parking restrictions within the Red Flag boundary shall remain in effect and no issued permit shall supersede these restrictions.
      • Event coordinators, along with all vendors, contractors, and other parties engaged by the event coordinator must comply with all applicable sustainability requirements of the Beverly Hills Municipal Code, including but not limited to the Single-Use Plastic food ware regulations (BHMC 5-12-3), Edible Food Recovery requirements (BHMC 6-1-506), and Organics Recycling requirements (B.H.M.C.
